Craving cocktails in Kyoto but finding yourself a little short on frequent flyer miles?  Head on over to Sushi Roku in Santa Monica instead and be rewarded with the next best thing to seeing those cherry blossoms blooming in spring.  Sushi Roku’s Happy Hour offers a variety of favorites from the regular menu at extremely affordable prices.  Operating in this location since 1999, Sushi Roku is right across the street from the water.  The elegant, refined interior has a great vibe which combined with the menu explains why this continues to be one of the most popular Happy Hour destinations around.

We started our visit with a round of beautiful cocktails carefully crafted by Bartender Domingo Mateo.  These included a Ginger Lychee Mojito (Bacardi rum, mint, lychee fruit, ginger, vanilla, lime juice), Mango Margarita (Corzo Blanco Tequila, mango puree, agave nectar, smoked paprika salted rim), Skinny Colada (Bacardi Superior rum, 100% coconut water, pineapple juice, Angostura bitters, orange slice, cherry garnish), Roku Fusion Martini (Pineapple juice, cranberry juice, watermelon punch, Razz vodka, lemon and triple sec), Fuji Apple Martini and Sparkling Sake.  All of the drinks were fantabulous but for me the Fuji Apple Martini really took home the gold.

Moving on to the munchies, we lost all composure and had to try most everything.  This included the Premium Edamame, Hanabi (Spicy tuna or yellowtail diced chiles), Albacore Tacos “Roku Style”, Seabass Spring Roll, Truffled “Renkon Kinpira” Lotus Root, Robata-yaki Skewers (Chicken and Beef), California Sushi Roll, and Calamari Fritti with spicy Ponzu.  All of the menu items were inventive and fresh.  Sushi Roku clearly combines the finest, freshest fish from around the globe with the kind of artistry that can only be provided by a mature sushi chef.  This combined with a splash of California innovation makes for a most delightful dining experience.

Sushi Roku is a real hot spot.  The crowd consists of well-heeled business people meeting after work, friends out for fun and daters looking for a special, romantic venue.  With such great pricing for such exceptional dining, everyone is sure to be pleased.  We certainly were.  Sophisticated, stylish, and full of panache describe Sushi Roku well.  You could not do any better!
